BGB fully ready for 12th national polls: DG
The force is an emblem of reliance for countrymen due to their dedication in discharging duties, BGB chief adds
BGB Director General Major General AKM Nazmul Hasan has asserted the force's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation's borders and discharging their duties to ensure the smooth conduct of upcoming national elections.
"The BGB has been transformed into a symbol of trust and reliance for our countrymen due to our unwavering dedication to fulfilling our duties during national and local government elections," he said at the passing out parade for the force's 100th recruits batch held at the BGB Training Centre and College in Chattogram's Satkania upazila.
Responding to a query regarding the BGB's role in the forthcoming national elections, the BGB Director General stated that the force has complete preparedness and will perform their duty accordingly during the upcoming national polls.
Addressing the issue of poll-time security, he said "We are maintaining heightened vigilance, particularly during this period, to curb the smuggling of illegal firearms and ammunition into the country. We have implemented stringent precautionary measures. We are constantly patrolling the borders, and we exercise extra caution during election times, as this may be a more volatile period."
"We also deploy additional troops across the country to maintain law and order. Approximately 200-250 BGB men platoons are currently deployed nationwide," he added.
In his passing-out-parade speech, the BGB DG exhorted the new recruits to combat smuggling relentlessly. He also cautioned BGB soldiers about the responsible use of social media.
"Our duties at the borders also have an impact on our economy. Therefore, I urge you all to carry out your responsibilities with patriotism and professionalism," he concluded.
A total of 582 soldiers, including 38 women, joined the BGB in the 100th recruits batch.
