2 buses set on fire in Gulistan area in just 2 and a half hours
From 28 October to 12 December, the Fire Service reported 274 cases of arson, damaging 270 vehicles and 15 buildings
Two buses were set ablaze in Dhaka's Gulistan in the span of two hours this morning on the first day of the latest blockade called by BNP-Jamaat and their allies.
Unidentified arsonists set one of the buses on fire in front of the Gulistan police box under Mayor Hanif Flyover.
The incident was reported at 12:18pm today, said Anwarul Islam, warehouse inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters (media cell).
On information, two fire-fighting units from Siddique Bazar Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the fire at 12:34pm, he added.
However, the incident didn't cause any casualties.
Earlier this morning, arsonists set a bus of Bahon Paribahan on fire in Gulistan area around 10am.
On Monday night, two buses were set on fire in Dhaka's Tikatuli and Mohammadpur areas.
Fire Service said at least seven incidents of arson were reported where seven vehicles were set on fire across the country in the past 24 hours till 6am Tuesday (12 December) ahead of the 36-hour nationwide blockade enforced by BNP-Jamaat and their allies.
From 28 October to 12 December, the Fire Service reported 274 cases of arson, damaging 270 vehicles and 15 buildings.
The vehicles included 168 buses, 44 trucks, 23 covered vans, eight motorcycles, and 27 other vehicles.
