1,200 sacks of relief rice seized from Juba League leader’s godown
The owner and other people at the godown admitted that the stockpiled rice was meant for distribution among the poor affected by the coronavirus shutdown
Local administration of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj has seized 1,200 sacks of government rice from a warehouse of Jabed Bhuiyan, general secretary of Madanpur Union Juba League under the upazila.
"Police raided Jabed's Haider Knit Composite godown in Keodhala area of Madanpur around 11pm on Wednesday," said upazila nirbahi officer Shukla Sarkar.
According to the owner and other people at the godow, the stockpiled rice sacks were kept for distribution among the poor affected by the coronavirus shutdown, she claimed.
"For now, we have confiscated the rice and sealed the godown. Legal action will be taken if they cannot show valid documents," she concluded.
