EC not concerned over statements of foreign countries
The Election Commission (EC) is not concerned over statements of foreign countries on the recent general elections.
Speaking to journalists at the EC headquarters in Agargaon on Tuesday, Election Commissioner Mohammad Alamgir also said, "It's not proper time to make comments about what others say. It's not our task either."
The United States and the United Kingdom have both expressed concerns about the fairness of the general elections of Bangladesh held on Sunday. The US State Department said that the elections were "not free and fair." The UK said the democratic process in Bangladesh was "incomplete."
When asked about the EC's statement in this regard, Mohammad Alamgir said, "Our statement was given by the Chief Election Commissioner yesterday [Monday]. I have no comment beyond that."
He further said, "We have done our job properly. We did what we had to do, we did it legitimately. Everything was done according to the rules. We believe what we did was right."
The election was held in a free and fair manner and the law and order situation was very good, the election commissioner said.
