The tweet asks everyone to join the UN Women to demand equal pay for women in sport
Women get surprisingly less amount of money in sports, a tweet from the United Nations’ verified Twitter profile revealed.
The tweet from @UN states:
“1 male soccer player makes almost double as much as the combined salaries of all players in the top 7 women’s soccer leagues.”
An infographic accompanying the tweet shows that Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi alone earns $84 million a year in salary and bonuses, which is more than double the combined annual earnings of 1,693 women footballers.
The tweet asks everyone to join the UN Women to demand equal pay for women in sport.
The tweet also contains a link to an article of the UN Women titled “In Focus: Women and girls in sport”. The article talks about the ongoing Fifa Women World Cup 2019 in France and the involvement of women in sports.
