A mobile court has sent 17 teenagers of a gang named ‘Star Bond’ to Juvenile Development Centre in Gazipur.
“They were detained in a drive conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Rayerbazar area of Dhaka on Saturday night,” said Mizanur Rahman, assistant director of RAB legal and media wing.
They were given one year in prison for their involvement in various crimes including hijacking, drug selling, he added.
Some local weapons and 90 pieces of yaba were seized from their possession.
The mobile court drive was led by RAB executive magistrate Mohammad Sarwar Alam.
"They were not involved in politics actively, but they were mostly used politically”, he said.
"There are few members of 'Star Bond' teenage gang still in run, as we couldn’t catch them on Saturday”, Sarwar Alam further said.
