Special train begins transporting mangoes from Rajshahi to Dhaka
A maximum of 240 metric tonnes of mango can reach Dhaka, daily, via this route
A special parcel train dedicated to transporting mangoes from Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj, to Dhaka, began operating today.
On the day of the inauguration, the train began its journey with 10 metric tonnes of mangoes. To transport the mangoes to Dhaka, traders and mango growers spent just Tk12,168.
Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton inaugurated the train at Rajshahi Station around 6 pm on Friday. West Zone General Manager of Bangladesh Railway Mihir Kanti Guha, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque and other railway officials were present during the event.
Earlier, the train had left Chapainawabganj Station for Rajshahi around 4 pm.
On the first day, 10 tonnes and 15 kilogrammes of mangoes were transported from Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj. Of this, one tonne came from Chapainawabganj and nine tonnes 15 kilogrammes from Rajshahi.
Four hundred kilogrammes of mango were transported from Kakonhat Station in Rajshahi, 2,695 kilogrammes from Rajshahi Station, 500 kilogrammes from Sardah Station, 1,110 kilogrammes from Arani Station, and 4,310 kilogrammes from Abdulpur Station.
The train will leave Rajshahi for Dhaka at 5.50 pm every day.
As a result, mango traders and farmers will be able to transport their mangoes to Dhaka at 1.30 paisa per kilogramme from Chapainawabganj and 1.17 paisa per kilogramme from Rajshahi. A maximum of 240 metric tonnes of mango can reach Dhaka, daily, via this route.
