Banks can now give cash dividend to individual investors
To protect the interest of small investors in the capital market, the central bank decided to relax dividend distribution rules
Banks can now distribute cash dividend among individual investors before September 30.
Relaxing the earlier restriction, the Bangladesh Bank issued a circular on Sunday.
To protect the interest of small investors in the capital market, the central bank decided to relax cash dividend distribution rules.
On May 11, the central bank had issued new guidelines for the banks' dividend distribution for 2019 – based on their capital adequacy ratio.
"The cash dividend should not be distributed before September 30, 2020," the central bank had said.
However, the new chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam met with the Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir on June 1.
As the BSEC chairman requested the central bank governor to relax the rule for individual investors, he got assurance of relaxation.
