Court orders to preserve seized currencies, gold of SK Sur in cenbank vault
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission
The Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court today (28 January) instructed the concerned authorities to preserve the foreign curries and gold ornaments of former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank Sitangshu Kumar, known as SK Sur, in the vault of Bangladesh Bank.
Md Zakir Hossain Galib, judge of the court, passed the order following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The foreign currencies and gold ornaments were seized by the ACC from his lockers at the central bank.
ACC Lawyer Mahmud Hossain Jahangir told BSS that ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hussain prayed to the court to preserve the foreign currencies including US dollars, Euros and gold ornaments at an appropriate place or the government treasury.
The ACC lawyer moved the petition before the court on behalf of the anti-graft body. The court after hearing the arguments of the ACC lawyer passed the order.
On 22 January, the court directed the seizure of the former deputy governor's lockers. Acting on this order, ACC officials confiscated €55,000, $169,300, 1,005 grams of gold, and fixed deposit receipts (FDR) worth approximately Tk70 lakh from his central bank lockers on 26 January.
On 14 January, a team of the ACC with the help of the Detective Branch of police arrested SK Sur Chowdhury from city's Segun Bagicha area.
He was also later sent to the jail on that day.
