Netrakona bank officials at high risk of contracting Covid-19
Besides doctors and health workers, bank officials in Netrakona are facing risky exposure to Covid-19.
Till Sunday, 25 officers and staff of 11 bank branches in different upazilas of the district have tested positive for coronavirus, according to the district health department.
The highest rate of infection of bank officials is in Kendua upazila. The infected are in isolation at their homes.
Bank workers are now providing customers with banking services amid coronavirus worries. People are also hesitant to go to the banks in fear of contracting coronavirus.
When contacted, Rasmohan Saha, assistant general manager (Netrakona regional office) of Sonali Bank, said bank employees had to handle crowds of people for disbursing allowances among elderly people, widows, freedom fighters and others ahead of last Eid.
During that time, they could not follow health safety guidelines in many cases. That is why many contracted the virus.
But now they are more cautious about the health safety protocol, he said, adding that they kept banking services on in the affected branches by bringing in extra workers from other branches.
Korshed Alam, deputy general manager of Krishi Bank's regional office, said some customers in no way would go by social distancing or health safety rules, causing problems in delivering banking services.
However, bank employees have been asked to provide services with the utmost caution.
