Every human trafficker will get severely punished: IGP
The IGP gave strict instructions to the police department to find out the culprits behind human trafficking and take exemplary legal action
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has said human traffickers will face severe punishment according to the legal system.
"Wherever they are hiding, we will find members of the human trafficking rings who have caused the citizens of our country to be subjected to such brutal killings abroad," he said, according to a press release issued on Sunday.
The IGP gave strict instructions to the police department to find out the culprits behind human trafficking and take exemplary legal action against them.
He said, "I will not talk to you [police department] for the second time before legal action is taken against members of those human trafficking rings."
Under the direction of the IGP, all the units of police, including the Rapid Action Battalion, Criminal Investigation Department, Police Bureau of Investigation and Dhaka Metropolitan Police, immediately launched operations to catch the culprits. Already 13 people have been arrested by different units of police in this connection.
Operations are underway to arrest the other members of the gangs. Police will continue drives against every human trafficker, the press release read.
The IGP instructed all the unit heads in this regard in a video conference held on June 1. All the senior officials and unit heads of police participated in the emergency video conference.
