RAB seizes large caches of narcotics in Dhaka, Feni

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized large caches of narcotics and detained three suspects during separate drives in Dhaka and Feni.

In Dhaka, RAB 3 personnel manning a check post near the Modhubagh area on Hatirjheel signaled a speeding car on the road to stop around 11:30pm on Wednesday.
The suspects tried escape the area after abandoning the car, but they were apprehended by the authorities. The detained are Md Nayeb Ali, 36, and Md Shahid, 48.
After searching the vehicle, RAB seized 522 cans of beer and 24 bottles of whiskey worth around Tk 292,800. Three mobile phones and Tk17,900 in cash were also confiscated from the suspects.
During primary interrogation, the suspects admitted to illegally selling beer -- bought from a man in Manikganj -- across the country including in Dhaka, said the RAB press release.
In Feni on Thursday, RAB7 received a tip off that several drug peddlers are transporting a large cache of phensedyl from Cumilla to Chattogram by a car. A RAB team established a check post on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway and began searching vehicles.
The team signaled a car to stop, but the driver tried to escape with the vehicle. After stopping and searching the car, RAB found 720 bottles of phensedyl hidden inside the vehicle.
The detainee was identified as Nahmaduzzaman alias Aryan. The estimated worth of the confiscated narcotics is around Tk 720,000 and the seized car is worth around Tk 20 lakh.
The suspect admitted during primary investigation that he has been a long-time drug peddler.
