DSE chairman Hafiz Md Hasan Babu resigned
This leaves six of the seven independent directors appointed during the Awami League’s rule on the DSE's board of directors
Dr Hafiz Md Hasan Babu, chairman and independent director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), premier bourse in the country, has resigned on Sunday night citing personal reasons.
He decided to leave the DSE at a premature level as he was appointed as independent director of the DSE for three years in February 2023. Later, Hafiz was appointed as chairman of the DSE board.
In this regard, Hafiz, dean of the faculty of Engineering and Technology of the University of Dhaka, has submitted a resignation letter to the BSEC through an email and a copy of the resignation also sent to the DSE top officials, confirmed a DSE official.
In a letter, Dr Hafiz wrote, "Due to my personal affairs, it will not be possible to continue as an independent director and chairman of the DSE."
"It was a great experience for me to work with BSEC and DSE, which paved a great opportunity to gather knowledge about the capital market of the Bangladesh. During my tenure, I have always tried my level best to contribute for the development of the capital market as well as DSE," he added in the resignation letter.
With the resignation of the chairman, the top post of the DSE become vacant, which is very important to run the stock exchange and taking policy decision.

Previously, after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman professor Shibli Rubayet-Ul Islam resigned on 10 August.
