Inspector suspended for trying to silence protestor by clamping his hand on his mouth
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Police Inspector (Operation) Arshad Hossain has been suspended for trying to silence a protestor by covering his mouth during the protests led by Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Arshad, who was working at Shahbagh police station, was temporarily suspended by an order signed by DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan today (19 August).
According to DMP, inspector Arshad Hossain in a bid to make him stop talking put his hands on the face of Nahidul Islam, a student of Political Science department of Dhaka's New Model Degree College, during the "March for Justice" programme of the anti-discrimination student movement on 31 July.
Despite being a member of a well-disciplined police force, his unprofessional actions have tarnished the image of the police as well as created negative public perception of police operations. In view of which he was temporarily suspended, reads the notice.
