Decision to withdraw Tk1,000 banknotes not easy to make: Finance Adviser
In response to a query on whether he believed the rumours surrounding the issue, Dr Ahmed replied, "I haven't said anything about it, so I won't comment on rumours. This matter falls under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Bank."
The decision to withdraw the Tk1,000 banknotes would not be easy, said Finance and Commerce Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
He made this remark today (20 August), while responding to journalists' questions after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen and Canadian High Commissioner Lilly Nicholls at the Secretariat.
When asked about the possible withdrawal of the Tk1,000 banknotes, Dr Ahmed said, "It won't be right to say yes or no to this issue. Let's keep it as it is. There are no problems with it. Such decisions cannot be made easily."
In response to a query on whether he believed the rumours surrounding the issue, Dr Ahmed replied, "I haven't said anything about it, so I won't comment on rumours. This matter falls under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Bank."
Regarding whether the agreements signed with China in July would remain in effect or be reviewed, he said, "There was no discussion on that. We will discuss these at a high level. We haven't cancelled or done anything yet. These matters will be discussed in the Cabinet.
