ACC sends letters to various departments seeking info on DB Harun
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent letters to at least 50 government departments as part of a search for the assets of former Detective Branch (DB) chief Harun-Or-Rashid following allegations of corruption.
The anti-graft body sent the letter to the government departments including the Bangladesh Bank, sub-registry office, passport office and Election Commission on Tuesday (20 August), ACC officials said.
Earlier on Sunday (18 August), the commission launched an investigation against Harun-Or-Rashid over corruption allegations.
According to ACC insiders, the anti-graft body has received complaints against Harun that he amassed illegal assets worth crores of taka through corruption and irregularities.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered all banks to freeze the accounts of DB Harun and his wife Shireen Akter.
