Student group stages protest, now demanding HSC exams
A group of students staged demonstrations today (21 August) against the government's decision to cancel all postponed HSC and equivalent exams, demanding that the exams be rescheduled.
Students under the banner "General students of HSC and Equivalent Examination-2024 batch" formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club this afternoon.
Following the human chain, they marched towards the secretariat with a procession.
At the protest, the students demanded the immediate rescheduling of the HSC exams, the prompt publication of a list of the students from the HSC-2024 batch who were injured during the anti-discrimination movement along with measures to protect their interests, and action after consulting with representatives of the injured students.
Earlier in the day, Notre Dame College (NDC) students rejected the decision to cancel the postponed HSC exams.
"The students of NDC are rejecting the notification issued unilaterally about cancelling the HSC 2024 exams. The anti-discrimination student movement took place to uphold the principle of merit. The decision to disregard the merits of hard-working students by cancelling the exam is unreasonable," reads a statement issued by the NDC students.
Yesterday (20 August), the government cancelled the remaining exams of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent exams in face of students' protests.
The HSC and equivalent examinations of all education boards started on 30 June. However, after seven exams were conducted, the exams were postponed due to unavoidable reasons arising from the mass uprising in July.
