382 Ansar members jailed over clashes at Secretariat last night
Despite the government's promise to meet their demands, Ansar members continued their protest last night, blocking the Secretariat gates and engaging in clashes with students and the public
A Dhaka court has sent 382 Ansar members to jail in several cases filed over clashes with the students in front of the Secretariat gate last night (25 August).
The Ansar members were produced in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police earlier on the day, Saifur Rahman, general record officer (GRO) of the court (Shabagh) told The Business Standard.
Of them, 189 Ansar members have been jailed in cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station, 98 in cases filed with Ramna Police Station and 95 in cases filed with the Paltan Police Station.
Despite the government's promise to meet their demands, Ansar members continued their protest last night, blocking the Secretariat gates and engaging in clashes with students and the public.
The clash broke out between the members of Bangladesh Ansar and students after Anti-discrimination Student Movement coordinator Hasnat Abdullah sent out a message that he and some others were being held in front of the Secretariat.
At least 40, mostly students, were injured during the clash.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a press release today, said six army personnel were injured in an attack by Ansar members in the Secretariat area.
