Train service on Ctg-Dhaka route to resume tonight
The intercity train Turna Express will depart from Chattogram station for Dhaka at 11:30pm
Train communication on Chattogram-Dhaka route is expected to resume tonight (26 August) after four days of suspension due to flooding in the southeastern region of the country.
"Train services will resume tonight. All trains are scheduled to operate according to their regular timetable from tomorrow," said Md Saiful Islam, divisional manager of Bangladesh Railway (Chattogram).
The intercity train Turna Express will depart from Chattogram station for Dhaka at 11:30pm.
The Chattogram Mail train will leave the port city for Dhaka at 11:45pm.
The railway official stated that the flood caused more damage to the Chattogram-Dhaka track than the Dhaka-Chattogram track. "However, the track has been repaired and is now ready for train operation."
According to railway authorities, the Feni-Fazilpur railway line is submerged in floodwater. Several railway bridges are inundated, and there are reports of the tracks getting disjointed in Cumilla. Feni station itself has been flooded.
A total of 20 passenger trains operate daily between Chattogram and Dhaka, Jamalpur, Sylhet, Chandpur, Cox's Bazar, Nazirhat, and Mymensingh. Additionally, 5-6 freight trains run on these routes.
The flood situation in Cumilla and Feni has been worsening since last Wednesday. Heavy rainfall, combined with an onrush of upstream water from India, has led to flooding in several areas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, Khagrachari, and Chattogram.
