World Vision Bangladesh provides cash grants to 18,000 families
Some 2,166 poor and vulnerable households in urban areas have received Tk5,000 unconditional cash assistance each while another 16,518 families in rural areas have received Tk3,000 each
International humanitarian organisation World Vision Bangladesh has provided about Tk6.5 crore in cash grants among 18,684 disadvantaged families across the country, who are the most vulnerable segment of society amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Some 2,166 poor and vulnerable households in urban areas have received Tk5,000 unconditional cash assistance each while another 16,518 families in rural areas have received Tk3,000 each, says a press release.
Sagor Marandy, World Vision Bangladesh's response director for Covid-19 emergency response said, "Covid-19 has had a major impact on the lives of many vulnerable communities and most of them have no alternative sources of income."

"World Vision launched a Covid-19 National Response emergency strategy in April, aimed at providing life-saving products, services and delivering key messages to vulnerable communities," he added.
World Vision has collaborated with one of the banking service providers to transfer the money via mobile banking accounts to the beneficiaries' accounts.
"The entire process from beneficiary selection to cash grant transfer is being done through a digitised system by using different software," Sagor Marandy further said.
World Vision has donated 843,640 hygiene kits to 12,330 households and 636,112 facemasks to 17,117 families across the country, the press release reads.
