Nationwide high-tech parks to be named after districts: Adviser Nahid
The nationwide high-tech parks, software technology parks, and IT training and incubation centres will be renamed after their respective districts, Nahid Islam, adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, said today (28 August).
"Several complaints have been received regarding the allocation and cancellation of land for high-tech parks, and it is necessary to review whether there have been any irregularities or corruption in this matter," said the adviser during an executive committee of the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority today at ICT Tower in Agargaon, Dhaka.
He added, "We have not achieved the expected results for which the nationwide high-tech parks were established. It is necessary to further review to what extent political reasons, corruption, or deficiencies in our capabilities have contributed to this shortfall. Identifying these issues will make it easier to move forward.
"In this regard, it is essential to study how other countries are progressing and how we can advance within our own capabilities."
During the meeting, a proposal was made to name the dormitories of the high-tech parks after the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement, such as Mugdho and Abu Sayeed.
However, the adviser did not agree and said there was no need to rush into this. He said the memory of the martyrs will be preserved in a way that will last a lifetime.
The meeting also decided to relieve the Property Management Company (PMC) of Sheikh Hasina Software Technology Park in Jessore and appoint a new PMC through an open tender process in a short time.
Discussions were held on whether the companies currently residing in Janata Tower at Karwan Bazar could continue their operations while the tower is being renovated.
The meeting also discussed how to facilitate loans for investors in the high-tech parks.
