Ganobhaban to be turned into museum showcasing 16 years of oppression: Nahid
Instructions have also been given to consult experts on museums both domestically and internationally, he says
Ganobhaban will soon be transformed into a museum dedicated to the July uprising as per a decision from the Cabinet.
"The museum will present a comprehensive portrayal of the past 16 years of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, the 36-day event of the uprising, and a list of martyrs, along with some digital presentations," Information Communication Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam said during a visit to Ganobhaban today (7 September).
"We achieved a new Bangladesh on 5 August through bloodshed. The goal is to preserve people's victory by keeping the current ruins of Ganobhaban intact and opening it as a museum for the public," he added.
Nahid, also the Posts and Telecommunications adviser said, "This building is being turned into a museum as a testament to the fate of any fascist, authoritarian, and murderous leaders. It emphasises that the people are the true owners of state power.
"A committee has been directed to be formed to oversee this task, which will be completed as soon as possible."
The adviser further said, "Instructions have also been given to consult experts on museums both domestically and internationally, especially those with experience in creating museums commemorating people uprisings."
