No more use of RAB for political purposes: Home affairs adviser
Home Affairs Adviser Lt General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) has ordered authorities concerned not to use the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for political purposes.
The adviser gave the order during a view-exchange meeting with senior RAB officials at the agency's headquarters in the capital's Uttara today (10 September).
"At the time of RAB's formation, it was stated that the force would not be used for political purposes. But the rule was later ignored," Jahangir said.
"Since RAB started being used for political purposes, it began to get involved in various illegal acts and misdeeds, including enforced disappearances and murders," he added.
The adviser also said through good practice and performance, RAB's lost glory and honour can be restored.
"That's why the RAB should work within the law. Illegal orders from superior authorities should not be obeyed. No one shall be detained without authorisation and unlawfully. The RAB should stay away from crossfires, disappearances, murders," the adviser further added.
