BNP's movement to continue until people's voting rights restored: Tarique
Political emancipation alone would not bring all the advantages, the country must undergo holistic development, he says
The BNP vows to continue its movement until the voting rights of the people are restored in the country, the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said.
Joining virtually at a programme commemorating the martyrs of the mass uprising, organised by Belkuchi, Chauhali and Enayetpur units of BNP in Sirajganj on Saturday (21 September), Tarique, as the chief guest, said with the fall of the autocratic regime (Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government), the people of Bangladesh have reclaimed their freedom of expression.
The BNP acting chairman asserts that the country is still in the process of achieving total success after the downfall of the AL regime. "We have been partially successful. The movement of the BNP will continue until the right to vote is ensured."
Mentioning that the BNP had earlier presented a 31-point outline to rebuild the country, Tarique said, "To ensure the country's advancement today, it is crucial that we implement the reforms we seek while also fostering economic self-reliance."
He further said political emancipation alone would not bring all the advantages, the country must undergo holistic development. "Should we succeed in uniting the country, the attainment of economic liberation is undoubtedly achievable."
Tarique said the objective of the BNP is to stand by the people.
As a special guest, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Tarique Rahman was the main architect of the movement by the students and the youth that had toppled the autocratic government.
"In the movement, the students and youth of the country put their lives at risk and freed the country from dictatorship. The main architect of the movement was Tarique Rahman," he said.
