To curb the dengue outbreak, 2,710 mosquito control workers were deployed by the LGD’s monitoring team across all city corporations and vulnerable municipalities
In a concerted nationwide effort, a total of 8,380 mosquito breeding grounds were destroyed in just one day, according to a press release issued from the Local Government Division (LGD) on Thursday (26 September).
This included 8,105 sites within 12 city corporations and 275 in municipalities.
To curb the dengue outbreak, 2,710 mosquito control workers were deployed by the LGD's monitoring team across all city corporations and vulnerable municipalities as part of the mosquito eradication campaign.
In addition to the eradication efforts, 11 cases were filed through mobile courts for negligence that led to water accumulation in locations like broken drum pots, under-construction buildings, flower tubs, and lift pits. These included five cases in Khulna City Corporation and six in Gazipur City Corporation.
On the same day, authorities issued 43 warning notices nationwide, with 14 in Dhaka North City Corporation, eight in Dhaka South City Corporation, two in Gazipur City Corporation, and 19 in Mymensingh City Corporation.
To further boost public awareness about dengue, leaflets and posters were distributed in various areas. All mobile operators have been requested to send SMS messages to educate the public about preventing mosquito-borne diseases. The message reads: "Regularly dispose of stagnant water. Keep your yard clean to help build a dengue-free country. Stagnant water is a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes. An easy solution is to pour kerosene on stagnant water."
