Tk8 lakh looted: 2 Sonali Bank officials, 2 Ansar members hacked in Gazipur

Robbers today (29 September) looted Tk8 lakh after hacking and firing shots at two officials of the state-owned Sonali Bank and two Ansar members in Gazipur.
The injured are Sonali Bank's Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital sub-branch In-Charge Atika Parveen Surovi, Cash Officer Farzana Nazneen Simu, and Ansar members Al Amin and Raju Mia.
The incident took place on the Rajbari-Sadar hospital road in Rathkhola area of the city this afternoon when they were coming to the main branch of the bank on an auto-rickshaw with cash from the sub-branch, said Sonali Bank's Gazipur court building branch Assistant General Manager Md Shahiduzzaman.
"Twelve persons on six motorcycles stopped the auto-rickshaw and threatened them with firearms and sharp weapons. While trying to snatch away the money bag, the robbers hacked them. They randomly fired shots and then ran away with the bag containing Tk8 lakh," he said.
The injured have been admitted to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment, he added.
"The incident was reported to the police. Preparations are underway to file a case over the incident," Shahiduzzaman further said.
Sadar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Rahedul Islam said police went to the spot after receiving information.
"An operation is underway to arrest the robbers and recover the money. Legal action in this regard is under process," he said.
