Amassing illegal wealth: ACC launches probe against 10 ex-MPs, including Noakhali-4's Ekramul

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to investigate allegations of amassing illegal wealth against 10 former lawmakers, including former Noakhali-4 MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, who was arrested last night from Chattogram.
The anti-graft agency took the decision during a meeting at its headquarters today (2 October), officials familiar with the matter told The Business Standard.
Other former MPs facing the investigations are: former Feni-1 MP Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim, former Mymensingh-10 MP Fahmi Gulandaz Babel, former Netrokona-3 MP Iftiquar Uddin Talukder Pintu, former Cumilla-5 MP MA Zaher, former Nilphamari-1 MP Aftab Uddin Sarkar, former Chattogram-12 MP Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, former Rajshahi-1 MP Omor Faruk Chowdhury, former Rangamati MP Dipankar Talukdar and former MP for the 39th seat reserved for women Hosne Ara Wahid.
Meeting sources said these MPs are accused of money laundering, abuse of power, irregularities in various projects, and amassing huge illegal wealth at home and abroad.
A decision has been taken to conduct a public inquiry against them on the basis of information received from the intelligence unit of the ACC.
The ACC also decided to probe similar allegations against Rangamati Awami League General Secretary Haji Md Musa Matabbar, vice-presidents Brisketu Chakma and Angsipru Chowdhury, and Cultural Affairs Secretary Remliana Pankhwa.
