BASIS ex-president Almas Kabir freed on bail hours after arrest
Syed Almas Kabir, former president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), has been released on bail hours after arrest.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Belal Hossain passed the order this afternoon after police produced him before the court, said Sub-Inspector Md Helal Uddin, the court's general record officer (GRO).
Police arrested Kabir from his residence in the capital's Gulshan in the early hours of Tuesday (15 October).
He was arrested in connection with a murder case lodged with the Mohammadpur Police Station over the death of a day-labourer, Akhter Hossain, in the capital's Mohammadpur area on 5 August during the student movement, said Iftekhar Hasan, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Syed Almas Kabir is also the CEO of MetroNet, an IT company.
He also served as an associate professor at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), for 13 years.
He has also been associated with North South University, City University, National University, and Northern University as a faculty member.
