DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, dropped by 149 points (2.91%) today (27 October) and closed at 4,965 — a level not seen in nearly four years.
The last time the index reached such a low was on 2 December, 2020, when it fell to 4,934 points.
Today's trading session saw only 29 issues advance, while 341 declined and 25 remained unchanged. Turnover also dipped slightly, settling at Tk301 crore.
According to market insiders, this prolonged bearish trend stems from low investor confidence, which continues to weigh heavily on the market.
