EWOE minister praises PM’s effort in the progress of tackling human trafficking

Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE), Imran Ahmad expressed appreciation of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina for Bangladesh's one-step progress in US report on human trafficking.

Through this progress, Bangladesh has come out of the list of 'surveillance' in the US report on human trafficking.

"Bangladesh has achieved this due to the efficient leadership and timely guidance of honourable PM Sheikh Hasina against human trafficking," said Minister Imran Ahmad. 

The revocation of licenses of recruiting agencies for illegal activities, the government's nationwide campaign on safe immigration, and the activities of law enforcement agencies have played a significant role in this achievement, he opined.

He said Bangladesh has succeeded in this regard due to the united efforts of the Ministry of EWOE, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law, various organisations engaged in maintaining law and order in the country and various development partners including international immigration agencies, civil society and the media.

The minister thanked all concerned and expressed determination to work together to further consolidate this achievement, he said in a press release on Saturday.

He particularly mentioned that the legal system against human trafficking has been strengthened in Bangladesh in recent times.

He reiterated his ministry's commitment to addressing the gaps that still exist in the eradication of human trafficking, and said that the Ministry of EWOE  was working under the direction of the Prime Minister to ensure safe, regular, fair and responsible labour migration. 

In this case, his ministry will show zero-tolerance of any kind of illegal activities. 

The ministry will use a number of observations from the US State Department report to ensure smooth immigration.
