Son accused of killing mother in Bogura sent to jail after remand
A Bogura court sent Saad bin Azizur Rahman to jail, in a case over killing his mother Umme Salma, after his three-day remand ended today (16 November).
Dupachaia Cognizance Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order, court inspector Mosaddek Hossain told The Business Standard.
"No one applied for bail today on behalf of Saad," he added.
Nazmul Islam, the investigating officer in the case, said, "The bail application may not have been possible due to the delay in sending him to the court."
Earlier on 11 November, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Saad on the charge of killing his mother. He was later remanded for three days.
Meanwhile, RAB issued a statement on 12 November, where the elite force claimed Salma's own son Saad had killed her and has confessed to the killing.
Police yesterday said 50-year-old Salma was murdered by one of her tenants in her house in Bogura's Dupachachia upazila on 10 November, contradicting RAB's statement.
Police said Mabia Begum, a tenant at Salma's house, killed her with the help of two of her cohorts.
The three new suspects, who were arrested last Thursday, gave confessional statements to the Dupachaia Cognisance Court about killing Salma, Faridpur Police Spokesperson Additional Superintendent Suman Ranjan Sarker told The Business Standard.
However, RAB reaffirmed its claim today about the son's involvement in the killing of his mother, saying the information was shared based on his confession after detention.
