Accused Shapla placed on 3-day remand over baby kidnap in Azimpur

A Dhaka court today (17 November) placed Fatema Akter Shapla, who was arrested in a case filed over the kidnap of an eight-month-old baby after looting a house in capital's Azimpur area, on a three-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam passed the order as police produced accused Shapla before the court and pleaded to place her on a five-day remand in the case filed with the Lalbagh Police Station.
According to the case documents, the accused came to the house of the victim Jannat Zaifa on 15 November. Jaifa's mother Farzana Akhtar, a stenographer of Ministry of Home Affairs, knew her from before. Shapla somehow managed to drug her, leaving her unconscious.
Later Shapla called three of her accomplices and they looted Tk1.70 lakh in cash, around seven bhori of gold ornaments from the house. They kidnapped Zaifa as well.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), however, managed to detain Shapla from Mohammadpur area on late 15 November night and rescued Zaifa from her.
