Job seekers stage demo in front of Petrobangla protesting postponement of oral exams
A group of job seekers have staged a sit-in in front of Petrobangla, the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation, in protest against the postponement of their oral exams by the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGTCL).
During the demonstration at 11:00am today (17 November), the Petrobangla authorities closed its main gate on the security ground that blocked the entry and exit of the officials, said witnesses.
The protesters alleged that the KGTCL, a subsidiary of the Petrobangla, postponed the oral examination without showing any valid reason.
Sources said at one stage of the demonstration the Petrobangla officials met the representatives of the job seekers and held a meeting.
Following the meeting, the demonstrators postponed the protest and gave the authorities until December to address the issue and left the Petrobangla premises at 12 noon.
Earlier, the KGTCL held written exams to recruit staff in the Revenue Department of the company in 17 categories.
But the oral examinations were postponed on a number of occasions which aggrieved the job seekers.
