NOAB concerned over journalists’ accreditation cancellation
It described the cancellation of accreditation cards as 'a direct threat to free journalism'
The Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has expressed deep concerns over the cancellation of accreditation cards for 118 journalists by the Press Information Department (PID) on 7 November.
"The decision to cancel journalists' accreditation cards has tarnished the image of the interim government," the organisation said in a press release issued on Wednesday (20 November).
It stated that the decision raised concerns about the government's commitment to press freedom and freedom of expression.
NOAB stressed that the nation does not wish to revert to the oppressive conditions of recent years.
The statement further described the cancellation of accreditation cards as "a direct threat to free journalism."
NOAB urged the government to immediately reinstate the accreditation cards of the journalists, emphasiaing that such a step would enhance the interim government's efforts to foster a free and open environment.
