UN working hard to ensure Rohingya repatriation: UNGA President Volkan Bozkır

The United Nations is working hard to ensure repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar with dignity, with Myanmar citizenship, said Volkan Bozkir, president of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), during a visit to refugee camps in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday. 

UNGA President Bozkir said the UN had continued to put pressure on Myanmar on the Rohingya issue. He assured that discussions on the rights of the Rohingya people will also continue at the UN General Assembly. 

According to Mohammad Shamsud Douja, additional commissioner of the Office of the Refugee, Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), Volkan Bozkir went to Cox's Bazar by air on Wednesday morning and then he was taken to Kutupalong Rohingya Refugee Camp – 4 in Ukhia where he had a discussion with Rohingya representatives. 

After the discussion, Bozkir inspected the damage caused by the fire in the camps on 22 March from the watchtower at Balukhali Refugee Camp. Then he went to Balukhali Camp – 9 and inspected the reconstruction of a hospital built by the Turkish government, which had been damaged by the fire. 

During the visit, Bozkir praised the Bangladeshi government and the people for providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas.

Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Mustafa Osman Turan, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shah Rezwan Hayat, Armed Police Battalion (APBN) – 16 Commander Tariqul Islam Tariq and Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nizam Uddin Ahmed were present during the occasion.
