India sends fifth tranche of relief for Rohingyas
India sent the relief in line with the commitment that was made during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s official visit to the country on October 5 last year
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Thursday sent relief supplies for Rohingyas who had fled to Bangladesh in the face of persecution by the Myanmar army.
For the fifth tranche of relief assistance, India supplied 1,000 sewing machines with pedals, 32 office tents, 32 rescue kits and 99 family tents to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.
India sent the relief in line with the commitment that was made during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's official visit to the country on October 5 last year, said a press release issued by the high commission.

These supplies are intended to support Bangladesh's humanitarian efforts to shelter the displaced people from Myanmar in temporary camps throughout Cox's Bazar.
These relief material will assist the officials of the disaster management and relief ministry in skill development of the forcibly displaced women from Myanmar, and also to tide over the unforeseen natural calamities in the camps.
This fifth tranche of assistance is part of a humanitarian relief program that has been initiated by the Government of India.
India sent its first tranche of assistance in September 2017 with a consignment of 981 metric tonnes of relief supplies, including family packs of rice, pulses, sugar, salt, tea, cooking oil, ready to eat noodles and mosquito nets.
In May 2018, India sent 373 tonnes of relief material containing 104 tonnes of milk powder, 102 tonnes of dried fish, 61 tonnes of baby food, 50,000 rain coats and 50,000 pairs of gum boots for the rainy season.
In September 2018, India supplied 1.1 million litres of Super Kerosene Oil and 20,000 Kerosene multi wick stoves and the fourth tranche of assistance in December 2018 included 225,000 blankets, 200,000 woolen sweaters and 500 eco-friendly solar street lights.
"As a friend and neighbor, India is always ready to stand with Bangladesh at times of challenge," said the high commission, adding that India appreciates the generosity and humanitarian efforts of the government of Bangladesh in providing temporary shelter to the displaced persons from Myanmar.
These supplies underline India's long term commitment to support the people of Bangladesh in their humanitarian effort.
