Angelina Jolie receives emotional standing ovation at Venice
Angelina Jolie was moved to tears during an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival following the premiere of "Maria," a biographical drama about Greek opera singer Maria Callas, directed by Pablo Larraín.
The response, reminiscent of Brendan Fraser's emotional reception for "The Whale" in 2022, has ignited speculation about Jolie's potential Oscar nod, her first in 15 years.
Fans had camped out 24 hours in advance to catch a glimpse of the star, who took time to interact with them, including a special moment with a fan suffering from brittle bone disease. Jolie, who underwent extensive vocal training for the role, expressed her initial nerves about singing opera.
"Maria" marks the third in Larraín's trilogy of films about iconic women, following "Spencer" and "Jackie." Netflix will release the film later this year.
