Apollo and his oracle
Apollo had many powers. The mighty God also could see the future which was burden for him as the temples of his name always had visitors, asking many questions about their future
The ancient Greek God and their whims are legendary. For example, Greek God Apollo, also known as God of music, loved building temples in his honour and he enjoyed receiving gifts.
Apollo had many powers. The mighty God also could see the future which was burden for him as the temples of his name always had visitors, asking many questions about their future.
One day, Apollo got tired of all these questions and he decided to have an assistant. His idea was to have a wise woman, an oracle as the assistant.
According to Greek mythology, oracles have powers to see the future. Apollo wanted a new and wise oracle for his temples.
Apollo had the power to make someone truly see the future, just as he could. But Apollo set some ground rules for his new oracle as he wanted to be free from his duties, not just to make the oracle see the future through him.
He would use his magic to allow her to truly see the future.
However, Apollo's rules stated that she had to tell the truth, but she could not be too specific. That would allow the possibility of misunderstanding. He thought it would be fun.
Subsequently, one fine morning, Apollo magically turned a young priestess into a real oracle. He also built a special temple for her with his powers.
The news spread among the locals and people started to come from all over the Greece with a hope to ask Apollo's oracle questions about their future. It did not take long for the word to spread that she could really see the future and could only tell the truth.
The news had crossed borders and among kings as well. One day, a tired king came to the temple. He asked Apollo's oracle if he would win the battle since he was exhausted of losing battles one after another.
She smiled and told him a great king would win the battle. That was exactly what he had wanted to hear. He went away happy, leaving many gifts for the oracle behind him.
Unfortunately, in the next battle the king lost. He was killed by the enemy army.
But people still flocked to Apollo's oracle as they knew she had told the truth. The king did not understand her message. What a shame the king did not pay attention to what the oracle had to say!
