BFDC starts work on 15-storey commercial building
Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) has started to demolish two shooting floors from last week
FDC is all set to construct a 15-storey multi-purpose commercial building on the corporation ground. The building will include shooting floors, Cineplex, accommodation facilities, food courts, and swimming pool and space to facilitate indoor shooting.
It will be constructed on the field adjacent to shooting floors 3 and 4, which will also be demolished to make room for the building.
Upon arrival on the locations, we found the floors, which once were occupied by film cast and crew, being demolished by the labourers.

K.M. Ayub Ali, Dircetor of Technical & Engineering department at FDC told The Business Standard, "We are constructing a modern 15-storey building. It will take at least three months to demolish the floor; construction work of the new building will begin around November or December."
Himadri Barua, public relation officer of FDC said, "To make FDC modern we have taken this initiative of constructing the new building. FDC's income will increase once we have the building with more shooting floors. We will have shooting floors which will be 73,000 by 469,000 square feet."
The BFDC steering committee approved the proposal for the building at a general meeting in 2015.
The proposed BFDC Complex will cost Tk 300 crore. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project worth Tk300crore and 70lakhs on October 3, 2018.
It will take a minimum of two to three years for the new building to be ready for shooting, which will create problems to build film sets in the interim.
The members of Bangladesh Film Directors' Association and Bangladesh Film Producers' Association gave a mixed reaction to the development.
One of the members of Bangladesh Producers' Association, who wished to be anonymous, said, "Rather than building a commercial building, it is more important to focus on the crisis that's going on in the film industry. We should focus on making good films and save the cinema halls. It is high time we save the film industry."
