Karan Johar acquires art piece by Bangladeshi artist Tayeba Begum Lipi
Karan Johar has acquired an art piece created by the prominent Bangladeshi artist, Tayeba Begum Lipi.
The piece titled, 'I'M OLD SCHOOL-1' (2024) is a sculpture made of stainless steel and was featured as a part of Shrine Empire's booth at 'Art Mumbai', an art fair that features Indian and global modern and contemporary art.
"Karan Johar went to the Shrine Empire gallery booth and loved the piece," commented Lipi.
She continues, "The Art Mumbai team purchased it for him and gifted it to him."
Tayeba Begum Lipi is known in the local art space for her installations, especially for the use of razor blades in her art. She is also the co-founder and trustee of Britto Arts Trust.
The fair began on 14 November and the event came to a close on 17 November. Shrine Empire has represented Tayeba Begum Lipi for the last ten years.
