TMNT: The Last Ronin #2 is IDW Publishing's largest print run ever

With over 130,000 copies printed, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #2 has broken the record for the largest print run for a single comic book in IDW Publishing's 22-year history.

The Last Ronin #2 released in comic shops on Feb. 17. In anticipation of a fast sell-through for the issue's first printing, IDW has already committed to a second. The second printing of The Last Ronin #2 is scheduled for release on March 31, and will feature new cover art by the Escorza brothers, Esau and Isaac.

The Last Ronin is a limited series consisting of five oversized issues, released quarterly. Based on an unpublished 1987 story concept by TMNT creators Eastman and Peter Laird, The Last Ronin takes place in the future, where the last surviving Ninja Turtle seeks vengeance against the Foot Clan for his fallen family and friends. 

The Last Ronin has been characterized as the Ninja Turtles universe's take on something like The Dark Knight Returns, Frank Miller's violent, futuristic take on Batman. Set in a dark possible future for the Ninja Turtles, The Last Ronin delves deeper into the tragic history of the last surviving Turtle, and delivers one of the most heartrending scenes in TMNT history, with #2 giving fans a glimpse at the final moments of a beloved character. The publisher promises that beginning with this issue, The Ronin's mission of vengeance becomes all the more clear.

Issue #1 released in October, and a Director's Cut edition, which includes the full story from issue #1 alongside bonus content, is set for release on March 17.
