Vin Diesel joins 'Ark II' video game, animated series
The actor is also lending his voice to the hero character of Santiago
The Game Awards 2020 were full of surprises and reveals for new and upcoming video games. One of the biggest surprises of the night, though, was a trailer starring Vin Diesel as a caveman fighting off dinosaurs and monsters.
Vin Diesel has joined video game developer Studio Wildcard as president of creative convergence, serving as an executive producer on the upcoming Ark II game and Ark: the Animated Series, both of which were revealed at the Game Awards on Thursday.
The actor is also lending his voice to the hero character of Santiago, a freedom fighter who will appear in both the video game and the accompanying animated series.
ARK: Survival Evolved debuted in 2015, giving players a chance to fight off various dinosaurs on islands. The action-adventure MMO game allowed players to use futuristic tech along with archaic tribal tools. It's perhaps best known for allowing ARK: Survival Evolved players to tame various creatures in the game, and famously got a Pokémon mod a few years ago. Now, ARK's sequel is starring Vin Diesel as a dinosaur-fighting tribal leader.
The animated series is directed by Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) and features voice cast including Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Russell Crowe, Michelle Yeoh and Malcolm McDowell.
Currently in production, the show is composed of fourteen 30-minute episodes that tell the origin story of a mysterious land populated by dinosaurs and other extinct creatures, and people from throughout history who have been resurrected.
Both the game and the animated series are set for a launch in 2022.
