Bangladesh women’s squad announced for West Indies tour
To surpass both New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will need to win at least two matches in the ODI series against the West Indies.
The upcoming tour of the West Indies holds significant importance for the Bangladesh women's cricket team. To secure a direct berth in the Women's ODI World Cup, Bangladesh must win the series. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the 16-member squad, led by Nigar Sultana, for the series today. The team will also play a T20 series against the West Indies.
The most notable aspect of Nigar Sultana's squad is the absence of Jahanara Alam. The pacer has been irregular in the team for quite some time. While she played five T20Is for Bangladesh last year, she has not featured in an ODI match since May 2023.
Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series during their West Indies tour. The team is scheduled to arrive in the West Indies on 14th January. All six matches will be held in St Kitts.

The three ODIs, part of the ICC Women's Championship, are scheduled for 19th, 21st, and 24th January. The T20I series matches will be played on 27th, 29th, and 31st January.
Road to the Women's ODI World Cup
The top six teams in the ICC Women's Championship will directly qualify for the 2025 Women's ODI World Cup. Bangladesh is currently seventh in the points table, with 19 points from 21 matches. Sixth-placed New Zealand has 21 points from 24 matches and will not play any further games. Sri Lanka, in fifth place, has 22 points from 24 matches.
To surpass both New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will need to win at least two matches in the ODI series against the West Indies.
Even if Bangladesh fails to secure a direct qualification, another chance to qualify for the World Cup will remain. In this case, Bangladesh will have to participate in another qualifying tournament alongside Ireland, Pakistan, West Indies, Scotland, and Thailand—or potentially New Zealand. The top two teams from that tournament will secure a place in the World Cup in India.
