India have suffered a major setback ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with pacer Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to a lower back injury.
The BCCI confirmed the news on 11 February (Tuesday), announcing that Harshit Rana, who recently made his ODI debut against England, will replace him in the 15-member squad.
Bumrah was originally included in the squad and had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. However, his injury, sustained during the final day of the Sydney Test against Australia, was deemed too serious to risk his participation in the tournament. He did not take the field on the final day of the match, raising concerns over his fitness.
India have also made another change, with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy replacing Yashasvi Jaiswal. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube join Jaiswal as non-travelling reserves, with the BCCI confirming they will only be called upon if required during the tournament in Dubai.
Despite these adjustments, the rest of the squad remains unchanged. India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February in Dubai.
