Dropped from the team, Soumya returns to childhood coach to regain lost form
He has been practising under Babul's supervision for two days now and the latter, on Tuesday, informed that Soumya is slightly frustrated with his batting form.
Soumya Sarkar has been left out of Bangladesh's squad for the Sri Lanka tour. On top of that, domestic tournaments have been called off.
But the southpaw has been on a mission to redeem himself and sweating it out at the Academy Ground in Mirpur.
He has been taking advice from Mizanur Rahman Babul, his coach from early days. He has been practising under Babul's supervision for two days now and the latter, on Tuesday, informed that Soumya is slightly frustrated with his batting form.
Since his debut in 2014, Soumya has had a few bad patches.
The left-handed batsman couldn't live up to his expectations despite getting many opportunities. He was dropped from the side.
Then he worked hard and made his way back into the team again. But he is yet to cement his place in the side.
Soumya made a comeback into the team through the ODI series against the West Indies after almost two years.
In the recently concluded New Zealand tour, he batted well in a T20I but his overall batting performance was below par by any standards.
Mizanir Rahman Babul said, "I happened to meet Soumya and he told me to work with him. I was the coach of the U-17 team for which Soumya played. Probably when they face a problem, they tend to go back to the childhood coaches."
"I was there for some time yesterday and I've returned again today. Soumya is obviously a little disappointed, having been out of touch for a long time. If he regains his form working with me, it will be great," added Babul.
Babul has detected some problems in Soumya's technique and is working on it. "There are some technical problems. Also, he is struggling with keeping the right balance while batting. We are working on it. The rest seems okay," Babul said.
