Opener Parvez Hossain Emon delivered a scintillating unbeaten 78 off 49 balls, dismantling the Fortune Barishal attack alongside Khawaja Nafay to propel Chittagong Kings to a formidable 194 for three in the BPL final.
The duo forged the highest-ever opening partnership in a BPL final, amassing 121 runs and surpassing the previous record of 76 set by Tamim Iqbal and Mehedi Hasan Miraz in last year's final.
Emon set the tone early, dispatching Kyle Mayers for two boundaries in the third over before launching into Tanvir Islam in the next, smashing a four and two towering sixes—one over deep mid-wicket and another straight over the bowler's head. His aggressive approach saw Chittagong race to 51 in five overs, reaching 57 without loss at the end of the Powerplay.
While Emon maintained a steady flow of boundaries, Nafay, after a cautious start, upped the tempo. Emon brought up his half-century off 30 deliveries, shortly before Nafay reached his own fifty off 37 balls, having struck back-to-back sixes off Rishad Hossain.
The record stand was finally broken in the 13th over when Nafay (66 off 44) edged a delivery from Ebadot Hossain through to the wicketkeeper. By then, Chittagong had already amassed 121 runs.
Number three Graham Clarke wasted no time, launching a six over extra cover off Mayers before clearing the mid-wicket boundary off Tanvir in the 16th over. Emon, unrelenting, punished Tanvir further in the same over with two more sixes, racking up 22 runs.
Clarke was eventually run out for a quickfire 44 off 23 balls, while Shamim Hossain perished at deep mid-wicket. However, Emon stood firm until the end, ensuring Chittagong posted an imposing total in their quest for BPL glory.
