Fifa reports record number of international transfers in 2024
English clubs led the way in transfer spending, investing $1.88 billion in new signings while also generating the highest revenue from outgoing transfers, earning $1.34 billion.
A record-breaking 78,742 international transfers were completed across men's and women's football in 2024, FIFA confirmed in a report published on Thursday.
Spending in men's football nears record levels
Clubs worldwide spent a total of $8.59 billion (£6.8 billion) on international transfer fees in the men's professional game. This figure was second only to the record $9.66 billion spent in 2023.
Paris Saint-Germain topped the list of Europe's biggest spenders, followed by Manchester United, Lyon, Bayern Munich, and Brighton. Six Premier League clubs, including Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest, were among the top 20 highest-spending teams.

Record growth in women's transfers
The women's transfer market also reached new heights, with total spending rising to $15.6 million—more than 2.5 times the amount recorded the previous year.
The number of clubs spending on at least one incoming transfer increased by 23.9 percent, reaching 109, while a total of 2,284 international transfers were recorded—an increase of 20.8 percent compared to 2023.
This marked the sixth consecutive year in which international transfers in the women's game grew by more than 20 percent, with numbers now more than three times higher than in 2018, when FIFA first began recording them.
