Fortune Barishal keep winning run going with 9-wicket thrashing of Dhaka Capitals
With this win, Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal secured a top-two finish and a place in the first qualifier, boasting 18 points from 11 matches.
Dhaka Capitals endured a nine-wicket loss against Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Mirpur's Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Already eliminated from the tournament following Chattogram Kings' earlier victory, Dhaka had nothing to lose, yet they produced a dismal batting display, posting the lowest total of this year's BPL—just 73 runs in 15.3 overs.
Winning the toss and opting to bowl, Barishal's bowlers dominated from the outset. Mohammad Nabi (3/9), Tanvir Islam (3/2), and Fahim Ashraf (3/15) dismantled Dhaka's batting lineup. Captain Thisara Perera top-scored with 15 off 11 balls, while Litton Das and Ronsford Beaton managed 10 each—no other batter reached double figures.
In response, Barishal chased down the modest target in just 6.3 overs, winning with a record 81 balls to spare—the biggest margin in BPL history in terms of balls remaining. Tamim Iqbal (21 off 14) and David Malan (37* off 16) ensured an easy victory after the early dismissal of Towhid Hridoy (15). Mustafizur Rahman claimed Dhaka's only wicket.
With this win, Tamim Iqbal's Fortune Barishal secured a top-two finish and a place in the first qualifier, boasting 18 points from 11 matches.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Capitals' miserable campaign continues, locked in a cycle of defeats.
