Jamal en route to play for Kolkata Mohammedan

Uncertainty loomed over the participation of Bangladesh national football team skipper Jamal Bhuyan in the I-League after he had tested positive for Covid-19. Rumours were there that Kolkata Mohammedan were searching for a replacement. But the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) dismissed them, confirming the midfielder's participation in the tournament.
The I-League will be underway on January 9. Jamal is supposed to play for Kolkata Mohammedan in the tournament. But Jamal's testing Covid-19 positive created some uncertainty.
Bangladesh football team travelled to Qatar to play the 2022 World Cup and 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers against Qatar. Bangladesh came back home after losing the match 5-0, but the skipper stayed back.
Jamal was supposed to return home on December 10. But he tested positive for Covid-19 on the way back. He was kept in isolation at a hotel in Doha. After recovering, the star footballer arrived in Bangladesh on December 22. He is scheduled to travel to Kolkata on Thursday.
Jamal sought blessings from his fans through a video message. "I am going to Kolkata today. Please keep me in your prayers. I am joining Kolkata Mohammedan today," he said.

Jamal Bhuyan's participation in the tournament for Kolkata Mohammedan, who have just been promoted to the I-League, was confirmed on November 4 when Saif Sporting Ltd and he signed a trilateral agreement with the club. The agreement suggested that Jamal would play for Kolkata Mohammedan in the I-League and will return to Bangladesh by April 20, 2021, to play in the second round of the Bangladesh Premier League for Saif Sporting Ltd.
