Mashrafe's future will be decided after board meeting: BCB President
BCB President Nazmul Hassan had said less than a week earlier that they cannot ensure Mashrafe as skipper for long-term.
Earlier in February, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan had said that Bangladesh's upcoming ODI series will be their current ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza's last stint as skipper.
"My thinking is Mashrafe will play the Zimbabwe series if he is fit but with the next World Cup in mind, we can't just give the captaincy to someone at the last minute before that. We will be able to give a clear-cut decision on the matter in a few months," the BCB President was quoted to say.
But about a week on, Nazmul has denied the claims of him saying that and said that the decision about the leadership of the ODI side will be taken after the board meeting in March.
"I did not say anything like that. You (the media) have said that in television, not me. The captain will be decided in the upcoming board meeting in March. I can not say before the meeting if he (Mashrafe) will play or not, will he remain as skipper or not will be. He will be the skipper in this series (against Zimbabwe)," Nazmul said.
Bangladesh's ODI series against Zimbabwe kicks off on March 1 at Sylhet and the other two will be played on March 3 and March 6.
